Nestled just outside Rapid City, South Dakota, our quaint family ranch boasts breathtaking views that sweep from the majestic Black Hills and Mount Rushmore to the stunning vistas of Badlands National Park. Our home is a lively blend of family, with seven children and nine grandchildren (and still counting), enriching our lives with endless joy and laughter.
My journey took me away from here for 25 years, but the pull of home was irresistible. Now, I, Renee, am living my dream, juggling the idyllic ranch life with the reality of our full-time jobs—Mike at the helm of his company and myself connected to New York from 8 to 5. Our bustling household still includes one of our kids, Cooper, part-time, and the grandkids who bring daily doses of happiness. And when extra hands are needed, we're blessed with plenty from our loving family. Our eldest daughter has even made her home right here on the ranch, living in the barn apartment.
Mike's adventurous spirit found him riding bulls from high school into college, a passion that eventually evolved into a yearning for cattle ranching. My roots, slightly more inclined towards farming, cherished the company of farm animals, with our daughter Cady diving into the world of beef cattle, sheep, and pigs for 4-H projects. Our home has always been a haven for rescued miniature horses, six of whom still share our lives here. Cady now takes a leading role in caring for our animals, from managing our Facebook page to the hands-on tasks of halter training and daily farm work.
Our venture into cattle began almost by chance when Mike surprised me with a beautiful miniature bottle calf, quickly followed by another, sparking a newfound passion in us. Starting with just two chrondo-positive calves, our curiosity and love for these animals grew rapidly. For more details on Chondrodysplasia, do check out our "Breed Insights and Care" section.
Fast forward, our herd has blossomed to over 80 Scottish Highland cows, prompting us to expand our dreams onto larger acreage, now nearing a hundred head, alongside a host of other furry and feathered friends. This new chapter brought us not just more land but an array of projects, always something to tend to on our miniature cattle ranch.
We love to share our cattle and talk cows. We both do work full time but if we have time we can schedule to show you our fold.
